Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Marsabit

Our journey begins early in the morning from Nairobi at 4:00 AM. Since it’s a long travel day, we’ll enjoy breakfast along the way. En route, we’ll make a scenic stop at Mt. Ololokwe for photos and sightseeing. We then continue to Marsabit and head up to Lake Paradise, arriving just in time to witness wildlife gathering for their evening drink. Afterward, we’ll proceed to your hotel for dinner. Don’t miss the stunning sunset views from the hills, as it’s a sight worth the trip.

Day 2: Marsabit to Kalacha to North Horr

In the morning, begin your adventure across the vast Chalbi Desert, passing by the striking rock dune at its center. The journey takes you to the picturesque Gamura Oasis in Maikona, renowned for its traditional shallow wells. Continue onward to Kalacha, a green and welcoming haven amidst the arid landscape. From there, head to North Horr to explore one of the closest dunes in the Chalbi region. Later in the afternoon, drive back to Marsabit, arriving just in time to enjoy a breathtaking desert sunset.

Day 3: Kalacha to North Horr to Loiyangalani

After breakfast, depart southward toward Loiyangalani, a vibrant tourist town nestled along the shores of Lake Turkana, the world’s largest permanent desert lake. Arrive in time for lunch, then take an afternoon excursion to Komote Island, home to the El Molo people, one of Kenya’s smallest and most unique communities, who rely entirely on the lake for their livelihood. For those seeking a bit more adventure, a visit to South Island National Park, often called “Reptile Island” due to its role as a breeding ground for Nile crocodiles, is highly recommended. Cap off the day with a scenic sundowner by the lake. A perfect and memorable way to end your journey.

Day 4: Loiyangalani to Ngurunit

Spend the morning exploring the charming lakeside town before setting off for Ngurunit, a scenic oasis nestled at the foot of the Ndoto Ranges, renowned for its rich birdlife and serene beauty. Along the way, pass by the impressive Lake Turkana Wind Farm, Africa’s largest wind energy project, a remarkable blend of natural splendor, sustainable innovation, and the resilience of local communities in this remote region. This journey takes you through one of Kenya’s most untouched landscapes, offering a true taste of the northern frontier’s rugged charm. Arrive at Camp Ndoto for an overnight stay, where you’ll enjoy dinner surrounded by sweeping views of the ranges and the melodic calls of native birds.

Day 5: Ngurunit to Nairobi

In the morning, take time to visit the local village, where you can interact with the community and shop for unique handmade souvenirs. Afterward, begin your journey back to the city.
