Standard Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Nanyuki

Begin your Mount Kenya trekking adventure with a pre-dawn departure from Nairobi at 4:00 AM. Enjoy a scenic drive to Nanyuki, followed by a transfer to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), the starting point of your journey. From here, trek 9 kilometers through lush montane forest and rolling hills to reach Old Moses Camp (3,300m). This moderate hike is ideal for acclimatization and offers your first taste of Mount Kenya’s natural beauty. Dinner and overnight in mountain huts or tents.

Day 2: Trek to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

After breakfast, ascend higher through moorlands and alpine terrain as you make your way to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m). Along the way, take in breathtaking views of Mount Kenya’s peaks, unique vegetation, and rugged landscapes. Shipton’s Camp is located just below the iconic peaks, offering an excellent base for acclimatization and exploration. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in this high-altitude sanctuary.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day

Spend the day acclimatizing and exploring the magnificent high-altitude scenery surrounding Shipton’s Camp. Hike toward the western side of the peaks to discover glacial tarns, pristine mountain lakes formed by ancient glaciers. This relaxed hike is crucial for helping your body adapt to the altitude before summit day. Return to camp for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Summit Point Lenana (4,985m)

Begin your summit attempt at 3:00 AM, trekking under the stars toward Point Lenana (4,985m), Mount Kenya’s third-highest peak. Reach the summit at sunrise and witness a spectacular panorama of the Kenyan highlands. After celebrating your achievement, descend via the scenic Chogoria route to Meru Bandas, passing dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and highland meadows. Enjoy a hot dinner and overnight rest.

Day 5: Trek Through Bamboo Forest

On your final trekking day, walk for approximately 2 hours through the enchanting bamboo forest, a peaceful and scenic farewell to the mountain. Arrive in Chogoria town, where your transfer vehicle will be waiting. Sit back and relax as you return to Nairobi, concluding your 5-day Mount Kenya climbing expedition.
